Abstract:
Pratylenchus thornei was found in fields in the northern Negev infesting alfalfa, barley, potatoes, trifolium, watermelon and wheat. Females, males and larvae invaded the cortical root tissue, leading to root collapse and a reduction in shoot weight. P. thornei is active under irrigated conditions in the autumn, winter and spring, whereas in unirrigated fields it is active in the winter only. The optimal soil temperature for its reproduction is between 18° and 22°C. The nematode survives the dry hot season probably in a desiccated quiescent state. © 1979 Springer Science + Business Media B.V.
