All-female common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) progenies, obtained from breeding regular females and inverted (XX) males, were compared with bisexual progenies, obtained from breeding the same females and regular (XY) males. The evaluation was carried out in two pond experiments in which the fish were grown to marketable body weight (about 1 kg). In the first experiment (spring spawning), the all-female progeny grew better than the control and produced a higher yield. In the second experiment (late summer spawning), the all-female progeny again grew better, but at a lower effective fish density due to higher mortality. The results confirm the possibility of producing all-female common carp progenies on a large scale by crossing regular females with inverted males and using standard technology for the artificial propagation of the fish.
