Abstract:
Citrus tristeza virus (CTV), an aphid-borne closterovirus, has ranked as one of the most important citrus diseases for the last 60 yr. CTV epidemics have caused the severe decline or death of millions of trees in many areas where the sour orange Citrus aurantium was used as a rootstock. This review collates information on the history of the disease, on virus properties, and the epidemiology of tristeza disease, with special emphasis on attempts made during the last 18 yr to control the disease in Israel. -from Authors
