Starch gel electrophoretic analysis of biochemical polymorphism in the Israeli common carp stocks, Dor-70 and Nasice, was investigated. Polymorphism was found in serum transferrin (Tf) and erythrocyte phosphoglucomutase (PGM), while erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate isomerase (GPI) was monomorphic in all fish. Five Tf alleles and three PGM2 alleles were detected. The observed phenotypic distributions were in good fit to the theoretical ones in both lines, indicating Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in the populations. Based on the data presented for the loci investigated, we conclude that the genetic structure of the Israeli common carp stocks Dor-70 and Nasice held and bred at the Fish and Aquaculture Research Station, Dor, did not change markedly during the 15-20 years which elapsed between this study and a previous one.
