Abstract:
A method was developed for estimating the number of surviving tobacco whitefly (TWF), Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae), nymphs after insecticide applications, based on the number of honeydew droplets ejected by TWF nymphs in 30 minutes. Honeydew droplets excreted by live TWF nymphs on a water-sensitive paper (Ciba-Geigy) stained blue and could easily be observed and counted. To estimate the number of live nymphs on an infested cotton leaf, the number of droplets ejected during 30 min was divided by a factor of 1.29. © 1984, Springer Science + Business Media B.V..
