An electrostatic system for pollination of almond and pistachio trees was developed in order to improve penetration through the tree outer layers. The system utilizes corona charging and air streams to transport the pollen. An electrostatic ring (ESR) for reducing the amount of free ions was developed, to enable the charged pollen to penetrate more freely into the internal parts of the tree. A model of artificial tree was constructed and laboratory experiments were conducted in order to test, optimize and refine the device. The results show that the electrostatic charging can increase the amount of pollen deposition by 18 folds compare to the uncharged treatments. Utilizing the ESR can increase the deposition of the charged pollen by additional 46% on the whole tree, and by 83% on the tree internal parts.
