Abstract:
The objective of this work was to study the genotype effect on accumulation of monoterpenes in tissue and cell cultures of menthol-type interspecific hybrids of mint. In contrast to cultures originating from menthol-producing mint species, the callus strains of interspecific hybrids accumulated menthol and its acetate as major monoterpene compounds. The level of monoterpene accumulation was 1 to 2 orders lower than that in intact plants.
