Abstract:
The pattern of labelled uridine incorporation into epidermal RNA species of starved, early third instar Calliphora vicina larvae, shortly prior to pupariation, closely resembles that previously described for the corresponding fully grown larvae. The effects of exogenously administered 20-hydroxyecdysone on facultative feeding phase small larvae implicate the naturally occuring small burst of this hormone as being the signal for the cessation of feeding, giant HnRNA synthesis and the larval commitment to pupariation. © 1982.
