Abstract:
Heat and radiation treatments interacted synergistically in the inactivation of spores of Penicillium expansum,Botrytis cinerea, and Alternaria tenuis. Decay of Spadona pears inoculated with P. expansum was almost completely prevented by treatment in hot water (47° C/7 min) followed by gamma irradiation (50 krad.) The same treatment did not prevent the rotting of fruits inoculated with B. cinerea and A. tenuis but a delay in disease development was observed. © 1969.
