Abstract:
1. 1. Duodenal calcium-binding protein (CaBP) in the calcium-restricted laying hen (Gallus domesticus) was assessed by the Chelex assay, and by measurements of the density of the CaBP band in gel electrophoresis preparations. A highly significant correlation was obtained between the two measures of CaBP. 2. 2. A long-term (32 days) restriction resulted in an elevation of CaBP level as measured by both techniques. 3. 3. CaBP in the laying hen was inversely correlated with ash-weight of the femur ends and cortical segment, but not with that of the medullary segment. © 1973.
