Abstract:
The RNA synthesized in the epidermal cells of young Calliphora larvae is mainly of rRNA origin, whereas during the larval-pupal transition primarily rapidly labeled giant heterodisperse RNA is synthesized in these cells. This heterodisperse RNA is of a non-ribosomal origin and represents molecules of mol. wt up to 20 × 106 dalton, with a peak in the region of 15 × 106. It is rapidly degraded with an average life span of about 30 min. It is resistant to heat, dimethyl-sulphoxide, and formaldehyde treatments as well as to pronase digestion. The precursor-product relationship between this RNA and low molecular heterogeneous RNA is described. © 1976.
