Abstract:
Catechol oxidase in young olive fruits was located on the inner face of chloroplast thylakoids and in the mitochondria. This was demonstrated by observing the oxidation products of 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl-alanine (DOPA) with the electron microscope in fruit segments prefixed with glutaraldehyde. Diethyl dithiocarbamate (DIECA), an inhibitor of the enzyme, prevented the accumulation of oxidation products of DOPA. © 1979, Annals of Botany Company.
