Abstract:
The rate of nitrogen release from improved ureaform (AI = 72 percent) in a soil of pH 7.6 was determined in a laboratory experiment as a function of temperature and initial ureaform concentration. The mineralization percent of ureaform at several periods of time was unaffected by its initial concentration in soil but increased greatly with temperature in the range of 14°C to 34°C. A temperature of 14°C induced a long delay period at the beginning of the mineralization process of ureaform. The Michaelis-Menten rate equation was applied to the process of UF mineralization. In the concentration range of 100–1000 ppm N, first-order reactions were obtained and rate constants were calculated. The rate constants increased with temperature. © 1974 The Williams & Wilkins Co.
