Abstract:
Studies of life- and fertility-tables of Maladera matrida Argaman under laboratory controlled conditions revealed that 25% of the progeny survived from egg to adult, with a different mortality rate for various larval stages, and a developmental time of 75.7 ± 0.6 d (±SE). The beetle population increased by 13.1 progeny per female in 1 generation, compared with an increase of only 5.6 and 7.1 progeny observed in the field. Females started to deposit eggs in the laboratory after a preoviposition period of 8 d, required >1 insemination to express their full reproductive potential, and their oviposition period lasted for 85 d.
