Abstract:
A geochemical survey has been carried out during the 1982-83 hydrological year on 22 springs located in the main carbonate structures of Molise region, i.e.: Mt. Totila, Mt. Capraro and Mt. Matese. These waters were chemically characterized by the presence of calcium bicarbonate with salt content less than 1g/l, except for Bagni de Masi spring (1.3 g/l). The TDS content of this latter spring associated with high CO2 values suggest the existence of a relatively deeper hydrogeological circuit linking the small carbonate block, from which the spring arises, to Mt. Totila. Bagni de Masi travertines are related to the hydrodynamic and chemical characteristics of the waters originating from that small carbonate block. The comparison of oxygen and hydrogen isotopic data from two seasonal samplings indicated a significant homogeneity for all the investigated springs. The TU values ranging from 26.8 to 47.8, confirm that the springs were generally supplied by waters with relatively short residence time. -from English summary
