Abstract:
The current trend in modern intensive agriculture involves pest control, while considering environmentally safe and pesticide-free products. Pest management approach incorporates the entire agricultural practices which are relevant to the crop production and which are also of impact with regard to pest onset or suppression. Effective approach has to manipulate all agricultural practices aiming at reducing optimal conditions for pest eruption and providing better conditions for plant development and hence it is based upon effective application of the appropriate measures at all crop stages, and interfering with any stage of pathogen life cycle. These involve, use of soil fumigants and other chemically, and physically based and cultural measures. Special attention is given to application methods and technology to ensure maximal effect on the targeted pest. Special attention is giving at minimizing negative attributes to the crop, environment and the consumer, by the reduced use of toxic pesticides. Thus, assembly of all components within a production system is expected to result in effective management.
