A medium in which agar was replaced by a calcium-alginate gel formed by spdium alginate reacting with a calcium salt, permitted the artificial rearing of the codling moth at a considerable reduction in cost. The larval survival and development, adult return, sex ratio, preoviposition, fecundity and fertility of the codling moth on various calcium alginate media are given. Feeding the adults a complex diet more than doubled fecundity. © 1971 Le François.
