The present study evaluated the use Jatropha curcas L. fruit waste from biodiesel industry for removal of Cadmium (Cd) in aqueous solutions through adsorption process. For this purpose, two adsorbents materials were prepared: EOJ (Endosperm of Jatropha fruits) and BOJ (Bark of Jatropha fruits). Based on the optimal conditions, the adsorption process was studied using different concentrations of Cd in solution and linearization by Freundlich and Langmuir models. The two adsorbent materials showed a removal capacity of Cd from solutions of approximately 90%, with a maximum adsorption capacity (Q m) of 31.69 mg of Cd g-1 of EOJ and 29.92 mg of Cd g -1 of BOJ. Thus, the results obtained allow to affirm that the jatropha fruit waste obtained after the extraction of its vegetable oil may be used as efficient biosorbent in the removal of Cd from aqueous solutions. © 2013 Taylor & Francis Group.
