Abstract:
The enzymatic synthesis of 4-O,β-glucoside from glucose and protocatechuic acid in different tissues of the adult female cockroach has been studied. Glucoside-synthesizing activity could be detected in the left colleterial gland as well as in the integument and fat body. The action of juvenile hormone on the biosynthesis of the P.A. glucoside is exerted in the biosynthetic chain leading from tyrosine to protocatechuic acid and not in the coupling of the acid with the glucose. It is suggested that the integument is the primary site for the biosynthesis of the glucoside in the animal. © 1970.
