Abstract:

The effects of sheep grazing on species composition and abundance of annual plants in  the seed-bank and in the vegetation were studied in the Lehavim Hills (northern  Negev) during 1995-1997. Samples of soil (in the fall) and vegetation (in the spring) were collected in a heavy grazed site, from four habitats differing in resources availability (south facing slope, hill top, north facing slope and wadi shoulders), inside and outside exclosures that protect from grazing since 1993. Results were analyzed in terms of functional groups and individual species.
