Abstract:

The problem of food loss and waste is one which must be addressed to decrease global hunger and improve food security. Fresh fruits and vegetables are an essential component of a healthy diet, and it is important to know how to maintain them after harvest. The article covers harvest procedures, storage and packaging, transportation to market and marketing. It also discusses emerging technologies to maintain commodity quality and prevent losses, and gives a number of web sites where additional information can be obtained.
