This special issue of the Israel Journal of Plant Sciences is dedicated to the renowned Israeli botanists Dr. Ora (Auguste) Horowitz (1920–2017) and Prof. Gadi Polak (1940–2018), who recently passed away unexpectedly.
Israel marks 100 years since the death of Aaron Aaronsohn, founder of Israeli botanical research. Mostly known for the association of wild emmer with domesticated wheat, Aaronsohn was also engaged in botanical explorations in the Land of Israel and established the first agronomical research center in the country. As a scholar of the local flora, his legacy has inspired a flourishing community of plant scientists in Israel. This special issue features ten articles representing the diversity and fruitfulness of the present plant research in Israel.
