The optimum amount of water, applied as a single irrigation to cotton 'Pima 32' variety at the beginning of flowering, was that needed to wet the soil to a depth of approximately 90 em. A higher amount of water, though inducing mol'e vegetative growth and flowering, did not produce lint yield, boll size, or number of harvested bolls exceeding this optimum treatment. An amount of water less than the optimum was less ·effective.
