Abstract:

Growth, development and solasodine production of Solanum khasianum Clarke and Solanum laciniatum Ait. were studied in field trials under conditions of water stress. Vegetative development, fruit production and yield, of S. laciniatum were severely affected by water stress. However, while limited water supply inhibited vegetative development in S. khasianum, fruit production and yield was not reduced, and fruit maturity was enhanced considerably. Solasodine content of the fruits was not affected in both species and solasodine content of S. laciniatum leaves remained the same.

Growth, development and solasodine production of Solanum khasianum Clarke and Solanum laciniatum Ait. were studied in field trials under conditions of water stress. Vegetative development, fruit production and yield, of S. laciniatum were severely affected by water stress.
