Abstract:

Common carp and koi producers around the world have suffered financial losses for a disease caused by cyprinid herpesvirus-3 (CyHV-3) also known as koi herpes virus (KHV). This disease is highly contagious and causes massive mortality to infected fish. Efforts to identify genetic resistance to the virus and to develop molecular tools for selective breeding of disease-resistant common carp are ongoing. Our findings will be useful for common carp genetic improvement and sustainable production.
