Postharvest losses of food crops are vital components of agriculture commodities. The role of plant microbiota in relation to plant growth and development has been myriad. Also, slowly and steadily the potential role of microbiota has been unraveled in reducing postharvest losses to solve the main issue of food loss economically. The healthy relation between plants’ inherited harvested produce and microbiota radically influences the whole food chain link, from “field to plate.” Microbiota seems to play an important role at the baseline of storage and importantly with its quality traits. Unraveling potential underlying mechanisms and using biotechnological tools can advance the unfolded view of the efficacy of these microbial communities as a biocontrol agent, which can help to overcome the limitations to enhance global food security.
