Of 9 herbicides, diuron and prometryne provided the widest range of pre-emergence weed control; both were selective for cotton and their herbicidal effect lasted for 72 days. Dichlobenil applied before irrigation inhibited germination of both weeds and cotton, and when applied 2 days after irrigation reduced weed population by 70-80% and crop germination by 20%. The reduced herbicidal effect obtained with dacthal was greatly increased after additional irrigations.
