Abstract:
Commercial plantations of several members of the Proteaceae family were planted, three years ago, on the high elevation mountains of Ecuador. The present report is the first documentation on commercial cultivation of South African roteas at high elevation on the Equator. The paper describes the unique environment in which the Proteas are being cultivated and the unique type of ornamental branches being produced. A comparison of Leucadendron 'Safari Sunset' and Leucospermum sp. Shoot and flower development in Ecuador and in Israel is reported. The comparison study was done at the anatomical (micro) and the morphological (macro) levels.
