Abstract:
A pot experiment in large containers was carried out to clarify whether abnormal development in cotton on calcareous soils is due to iron or other essential microelement deficiency. Visual symptoms seen on the experimental plants were the same as those observed in the field i.e. delayed emergence, stunted initial growth and greyish green leaf colour persisting until picking time. The criteria used to assess if trace element treatments gave results in agreement with each other showed that affected plants did not suffer from each of the trace elements examined. Data from diagnostic chemical tests made on the various plant parts showed various interesting levels of macro-elements which can serve as tool in developing a method of diagnosing nutritional status in cotton. © 1971 Dr. W.
