Abstract:
The performances of Hashabi clones, bred following a survey carried out in Israel apple orchards, were analyzed under various cultivation conditions; MH13-4, MH14-5 and MH 15-6 clones showed the best production. Oregon Spur, among Spur types, gave the best yields when grown in 2500 trees/ha orchards and grafted on the MH 14-5 clone, followed by MH 13-4. Standard Golden Delicious and Jonathan varieties, on MH 13-4 rootstocks, and in 1250 or 1670 trees/ha orchards, provided the best yields, with good fruit qualities. Hashabi clones, fully adapted to the Israeli climate, had well balanced vegetation and production. The MH 12-1 clone, followed by the MH 15-6 clone, then MH 14-5, were the most vigorous rootstock studied. The MH 13-4 clone was the most interesting because it was found to be the least vigorous. English clones, such as MM 106, were the weakest. In Israel, all new apple orchards are now planted with these new Hashabi clones. © 1995 Elsevier, Paris.
