Abstract:
1. 1. The major proteins secreted by the female locust fat body in vitro were identified by electrophoresis and immunoprecipitation as vitellogenin and diglyceride-carrying lipoprotein (DGCL). 2. 2. Female DGCL differs from male DGCL in having antigenic determinants in common with vitellin. 3. 3. Vitellogenin secretion in vitro increases to a plateau towards the end of oocyte development, finally diminishing slightly. DGCL secretion remains fairly constant during oocyte development but decreases abrutply at the end. Both these secretion patterns differ from those observed in the locust in vivo. © 1979.
