Abstract:
Measurements of exchangeable K, percentage of exchangeable K in the total exchange capacity, K extracted in a CaCl2 solution, and the change in free energy of exchange of K for Mg and Ca (ΔF) were compared as methods for the evaluation of available K in soils. The evaluation was based on the K uptake of plants in a pot exhaustion experiment. The ΔF value was best correlated with the K uptake of the plants. A good correlation was found between the logarithms of the exchangeable K expressed as a percentage of the cation exchange capacity and ΔF values. Copyright © 1967, Wiley Blackwell.
