Abstract:
Methods for transformation of Israeli strawberry cultivars were developed with the aim of incorporating genes for improvement of horticultural and fruit qualities. Transformation and regeneration protocols were adapted for the Israeli cultivars utilizing the TPRP-F1::rolB chimeric transgene which we have previously shown to induce parthenocarpy in tomato. In the present report modifications for improved transformation and regeneration rate are presented. The long term objective of this project is to test whether this transgene will promote receptacle development in strawberry, and aid in reducing problems of fruit set and malformation in the winter harvest. © ISHS.
