Abstract:
To prevent condensation damage to groundnuts shipped in containers, calcium chloride at dosages of 30, 60 and 120 kg, was applied to containers each containing 5400 kg of in-shell groundnuts, moisture content 8 · 5%. The moisture content of in-shell groundnuts in the upper layer of the control container rose to 10 · 2%, whereas that in the containers treated with calcium chloride fell to 8% or less. Moulds were present only on groundnuts in the upper layer of the control container, while on all the other samples taken from the control container and from those containers treated with calcium chloride, moulds were not visible. © 1988.
