Measurements of soil electrical conductivity, EC//a, for assessing soil solution salinity, EC//w, use calibration curves obtained in the field or in the laboratory. It has been found that calibration curves obtained in the laboratory on water-saturated soil columns are very sensitive to entrapped air which affects the calibration slope of EC//a -EC//w by 25% or more.
