Bioassays using seedlings of cucumber and mung bean were conducted to test the sensitivity of species and their cultivars to toxin produced by the fungus Phoma tracheiphila (the causal agent of Mal secco disease in citrus). Cucumber was found to be more sensitive than mung bean, but differences were found between cultivate of both species. The cucumber cultivar "Delila", a gynoecious inbred was the most sensitive and gave the most uniform results. Sensitivity of an individual cultivar is not indicative of the sensitivity of the species as a whole. © 1983.
