Abstract:
The effects of pollination on set and growth of summer squash var. Zucchini were investigated. In winter, parthenocarpic fruits developed and pollination had no effect, but in summer only pollinated fruits continued to grow. Partial pollination in summer caused ovary abortion of some fruits, and a reduced rate of fruit growth in those which continued to grow. The ovary was 88 cm. long at anthesis in winter but only 8 cm. long in summer. © 1971, Cambridge University Press. All rights reserved.
