Abstract:
During recent years the irrigation of cotton by the trickle method became popular despite the high cost of the system. The yields obtained were in most cases higher than in sprinkler-irrigated fields. Investigations performed with trickle irrigation during the years 1974-1978 in cotton fields showed that despite the small wetted soil volume, the plants were adequately supplied with water and nutrients and high yields were obtained. The research work was carried out in shallow and deep soils under normal field conditions with the aim of obtaining maximum yield and water use efficiency. Some of the results from those five years of experiments are presented in the paper.
