Abstract:
'Eureka' and 'Villafranca' old-line lemon cultivars (Citrus limon (L.) Burm. f.) were planted on 8 rootstocks in loess soil in the northern Negev region of Israel. The cultivars differed in their response to the different rootstocks: 'Villafranca' lemon on volkameriana (C. volkameriana Chapot) was the best rootstock-scion combination during the first 13 years of the experiment. Alemow (C. macrophylla Wester.) can be considered a semi-dwarfing rootstock for old-line lemon cultivars which were infected with xyloporosis virus and citrus exocortis viroid (CEV); it induced the highest yields for 'Eureka' lemon. Exocortis-infected trees on Rangpur line (C. limonia Osbeck) reached full canopy size slowly, but cannot be considered dwarfed. © 1989.
