Abstract:
1. 1. Chick serum globulin and albumin labeled with 125I were injected i.v. into laying hens treated with ethylene dibromide (EDB). The uptake of both fractions per whole yolk and per unit of membrane area was diminished to about half the control value. 2. 2. Although more follicles grew simultaneously in the EDB treated than in the control ovaries, the average total uptake of proteins per treated ovary was also about half the control value. 3. 3. The impaired passage of proteins from blood serum to the ovarian follicle may be related to the decreased egg size caused by EDB in laying hens. © 1971.
