Abstract:
Detailed graphic and algebraic procedures were outlined for finding the most profitable parental combination among a group of lines when genetic additivity of component traits is assumed. Profit was expressed as a linear function of productivity and a reciprocal function of reproductivity. The non-linearity and the unequal contributions to profit of the sire and dam lines were exploited in order to minimise both reproduction and production costs. © 1966, British Society of Animal Science.
