Abstract:
Extreme competition for natural feeds in densely stocked fish ponds drastically reduces standing stock as well as the production of organisms considered to occupy the various food niches. To satisfy their dietary needs, fish of different feeding characteristics are thereby forced to be dependent upon food from sources not selected under normal conditions. The result is a shift to consumption of microorganisms of lower trophic level. -from Sport Fishery Abstracts
