Abstract:
Sodium absorption by bean-leaf slices from o·1 mM 22NaCl depends on metabolic energy, but is not enhanced by light. Light also does not effect the ATP content of the tissue. Inhibitors of energy metabolism which decrease the ATP content also inhibit 22Na+ absorption. In darkness, anoxia severely affects the ATP content as well as 22Na+ absorption; illumination restores both to almost normal values. © 1974 Oxford University Press.
