Abstract:
An analysis was made of material flow from the field to different stages of mechanical processing in the packinghouse. The data indicate that the amount of manual labor needed for separation increases sharply when flower bulbs are harvested mechanically rather than by hand. An experimental fluidized bed separator for flower bulbs was developed and tested in continuous operation in a packinghouse. Effective separation was achieved for a mixture with a high content of clods and stones.
