Abstract:
The uptake of macromolecules by the ovarian follicles of laying hens treated with ethylene dibromide (EDB) was studied with labelled compounds. Chick serum albumin and globulin labelled with 131I and 125I were injected i.v. into control and treated hens. The uptake of both fractions per whole yolk and per unit of membrane area diminished in the treated hens to about half that of the control. Similar results were obtained with labelled polyvinylpyrrolidone (M.W. 40,000). The distribution of phosphoproteins, specific for laying, was studied using 32P and was similar in yolk of EDB treated and control hens.
