Ribosomes from differentiated uredospores of the bean rust fungus (Uromyces phaseoli) that were germinated for 4 hr were partly bound to cellular membranes. Compared with total ribosomal RNA extracted by a phenol and sodium lauryl sulfate procedure, 37% of the ribosomes were extracted directly, while the remainder were bound to mem-branes and required release to be recovered. The percentage of ribosomes that were aggregated into polyribosomes was 57%. These polyribosomes were ribonuclease-sensitive.
