Abstract:

ESP-SAR relationships differing systematically from the commonly accepted average curve are reported for an arid zone in the western Negev, Israel. The extreme difference is observed for the sandy soils. Results may suggest that although determined ESP are close to the real values existing in the field, SAR values are altered markedly by laboratory procedures. Theoretical considerations imply that the calcium carbonate dissolution may cause these discrepancies.
