Abstract:

Starch gel electrophoresis of biochemical polymorphism in the Israeli common carp stocks, Dor-70 and Nas˜ice, was investigated. Polymorphism was found in serum transferrin (Tf) and erythrocyte phosphoglucomutase (PGM), while erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate isomerase (GPI) was monomorphic in all fish. Five Tf alleles and 3 PGM2 alleles were detected. The observed phenotypic distributions were in good fit to the theoretical ones in both lines, indicating Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in the populations. Based on data for the loci investigated, it was concluded that the genetic structure of the Israeli common carp stocks Dor-70 and Nas˜ice, held and bred at the Fish and Aquaculture Research Station, Dor, Israel did not change markedly during the 15-20 years which elapsed between the 2 studies.
