Infection with the mild ZYMV-WK protected against the infection of the severe ZYMV in melons, squash, watermelons and cucumbers.
The effect on squash yields was also determined. A loss of ca. 10% was recorded in comparison with non-protected squash.
The advantages of this controlled measures are discussed.
