In order to realize energy saving in summer cooling of forced ventilation in greenhouses, an experimental study was carried out to check the energy saving possibility of using variable air ventilation (VAV) based on the technology of variable frequency drives (VFD). Two sections in a greenhouse were separated completely and installed with VFD system and ON-OFF system respectively. The comparison result of two sections in one summer experiment shows that the VFD system has a magnificent potential in energy saving with the advantages of smaller temperature and humidity variations in greenhouse as compared with ON-OFF system.
